Warren Spahn allowed 3 hits while blanking Florida as the Atlanta Braves
defeated the Florida Marlins 1 to 0 at Fulton County Stad. It was the second straight conplete game shutout for the Braves to open the season after Greg Maddux shut out Florida yesterday.

Spahn(1-0) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Florida
hitters. He allowed just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings, throwing only 116 pitches. Both teams finished the game with 3 hits.

The only run of the game scored in the seventh inning. With one out, Joe Torre doubled. Ryan Dempster struck out Spahn, then, with Marcus Giles at the plate, fired a wild pitch to advance Torre to third. No matter-Giles doubled to plate Torre with what proved to be the game's lone run.

Dempster(0-1) was the hard luck loser. He pitched 7 innings giving up 3 hits and 5 walks while striking out 8. After the game, Dempster noted somewhat testily, "Any more games like this and we'll have to sue for non-support".
