In a tight game it was the Chicago Cubs 7, the Colorado Rockies 5 at Coors
Field.

Chicago went ahead to stay in the top of the 8th inning with 3 runs using 4 hits. After an out was recorded, Hack Wilson got things going when he laced a one-base hit. Gabe White relieved Ubaldo Jiminez and the lefty fanned Billy Williams. Curtis Leskanic them came on to face the righty hitting Derrek Lee, but threw gasoline on the fire as Lee bombed a two-run dinger to put Chicago on top. Ernie Banks was up next and he tripled. Gabby Hartnett came to the plate and lined a base-hit, scoring Banks. Ron Santo was the next batter, but he struck out to end the inning. Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the night.

Fergie Jenkins(1-0) was the beneficiary of the late rally, getting the win while allowing 5 runs in 8 innings. Lee Smith gained credit for his 1st save.
Leskanic(0-1) was the loser in relief.
