Mark Teixeira rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Camden Yards as the Texas
Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 7 to 5.
Teixeira had a good evening at the plate. He hit a bases-empty home run in
the 2nd inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the
8th inning. Julio Franco led off the game with a homerun, and Josh Hamilton added a solo shot as well. Texas had 10 hits for the game and Baltimore had 5.
The victory went to Nolan Ryan(1-0) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 4
runs. The Express fanned eight and did not walk a batter until the ninth inning. Jeff Russell was credited with his 1st save, coming in after Jeff Zimmerman permitted a pinch hit grand slam by John Lowenstein and retiring the two batters he faced.
Jim Palmer(0-1) took the loss. He served up 4 gopher balls in 7 and 2/3 innings.
