Center fielder Juan Pierre had 2 base hits and Matt Turner pitched 4 and one
third strong innings in relief as the Florida Marlins defeated the Atlanta Braves by a score of 5 to 4 at Fulton County Stadium.

Florida claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 4 runs on 5
base hits. The big moment was provided by Hanley Ramirez who silenced the
crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his first of the season). Atlanta was out-hit by Florida, 11
hits to 6.

Turner(1-0) got credit for the victory, but starter Carl Pavano had to leave the game after just 2/3 of an inning and was placed on the 15 day disabled list after the game. Brad Penny will likely be promoted to take Pavano's spot in the rotation, and as Jack McKeon observed after the game, "if Penny pitches well, who knows? Brad may have a spot in the rotation."

Bryan Harvey earned the save, his 1st. Phil Niekro(0-1) took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over six innings.
