Right fielder Sixto Lezcano cracked a homer and had 4 RBI as the Milwaukee
Brewers defeated the New York Yankees by the score of 6 to 3 at Yankee
Stadium.

Milwaukee drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
with 2 runs on 3 hits. Paul Molitor led off and he laced a single. Jeff
Cirillo stepped up next and he singled. Two outs later Lezcano came to the
plate and laced a base-hit to drive in two, aided by a throwing error by Joe DiMaggio. Prince Fielder followed and he drew a walk. Gorman Thomas was a strikeout victim, unable to help out and ending the inning.

The Brewers extended their lead with Lezcano's two run homer in the fourth, then added single runs in the sixth and eighth on solo HR's by Tommy Harper and Robin Yount. Paul O'Neill's solo blast got the Yankees on the board in the fifth, and then added a two run double in the eighth. Milwaukee had 14 hits for the game (stranding 10, though-and lost two runners on the basepaths and New York had 9.

The victory went to Mike Caldwell(1-0) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Caldwell was helped out by Rollie Fingers who recorded his 1st save. Fingers got out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth, retiring pinch hitter Johnny Blanchard on a pop up to Jeff Cirillo with the tying run on deck.

Waite Hoyt(0-1) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 13 hits and 4 walks in
7 innings, and only the Brewers inability to hit with men on base and poor baserunning kept the game close.
