Center fielder Al Simmons blasted a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Oakland
Athletics defeated the Indianapolis ABC's 11 to 8 at Oakland Co
Stadium.

Simmons provided much of the offense. He legged out an inside the park home run in the 1st inning, delivered a base-hit plating a run in Oakland's 7 run 3rd inning and lined a single plating two runs in the 8th inning. Simmons was aided by his long time mate Jimmie Foxx, whose 3 run homer off Smokey Joe Williams put Oakland on top to stay. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for Indianapolis to come away with the victory, despite the ABC's outhitting the Athletics 14 to 9. Indy's pitchers allowed six walks and four home runs, which did not help the ABC cause any.

Lefty Grove(1-0) allowed 7 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jim Todd gained credit for his 1st save, quelling the ABC threat in the 8th after Buck Leonard had gotten Indianapolis back within one run on a two run homer. Smokey Joe Williams(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 homeruns in his 2 and 1/3 innings of work, allowing a total of 6 runs on 4 hits.
