Sal Bando homered and had 3 RBI as the Oakland Athletics pulled out a win over
the Indianapolis ABC's by a score of 7 to 4 at Oakland Co Stadium.

Oakland had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs. Al Simmons
led off the inning for Oakland when he reached on an error by Willie Wells. "Double Duty" Radcliffe came on in relief to face Jimmie Foxx, and Radcliffe set down "Double X" on strikes. After Mark McGwire lined out for the second out, Reggie Jackson came up and he was hit by a pitch. Bando followed and he lofted a three-run walk-off 'big-fly' down the left field lime, giving Oakland the win and delighting the 24,125 home town fans in attendance. Indianapolis had 9 hits in the game while Oakland had just 5, but Oakland had the more timely hits, with 4 of those 5 hits being home runs (Henderson, Foxx and McGwire also homered besides Bando).

Rick Honeycutt(1-0) went 1 inning in relief allowing no runs for the victory. Leroy
Matlock(0-1) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 8 innings of work, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits. Judy Johnson observed after the game, "We're not going to win too many games if we keep beating ourselves like this", referring to errors by Wells and Buck Leonard that keyed the two Oakland rallies.
