Chino Smith had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Big Bill Foster went the distance as the
Birmingham Barons outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 13 to 8.

The Birmingham fans enjoyed the offense provided by Smith. He cleared the
fences for a two-run home run in the 1st inning, laced a base-hit resulting
in a run in the 3rd inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 6th inning
and lined a single in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh was not lacking for run
support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they
seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

Foster(1-0) finished the game allowing 8 runs in the victory. Babe Adams(0-1)
was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 11 runs in 6
innings, 6 of them in a six-run sixth that broke open a close 5-4 game.

"Chino led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him carry us today" Foster
said. "I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team."

Adams added, "Wish he was on my team too. He really kicked our butts today".
