In a tight game it was the Birmingham Barons 6, the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 at
Rickwood Field.

Birmingham wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 2
runners on 1 hit. The key offensive moment was provided by Josh Gibson who
made the crowd come alive when he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run. After the Pirates had sliced the lead in half in the second, the Barons added three in the fourth and never looked back, keyed by an RBI double by Mule Suttles and a two run homer from Rev Cannady.

The win was credited to Bullet Joe Rogan(1-0) who went 7 innings allowing 4
runs. Rogan got help from Andy Cooper who earned his 1st save. Cooper entered the game in the eighth with two on and nobody out-while he did allow a run to slice the lead to one, Cooper did finish up for the Barons to get the save. He retired Pie Traynor and Bill Mazeroski with the bases loaded to end the eighth, then set the Bucs down in order in the ninth.

Vern Law(0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs over six innings.
