Shortstop Derek Jeter blasted 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Russ Ford pitched a complete game as the New York Yankees smashed the overmatched Detroit Tigers, 15 to 3.

Jeter had a big day with his bat. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st
inning, smacked a three-run homer in the 4th inning and doubled plating two
runs in the 5th inning. New York provided plenty of action in the 4th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 6 hits and the 5th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 6 hits. New York totaled 21 hits on the night.

Ford(1-0), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Frank
Lary(0-1) was given the loss. The "Yankee Killer" was knocked around pretty good this time out, giving up 8 runs on 11 hits (including the 2 Jeter homers) in 3 and 1/3 innings.

'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Jeter said after the game. 'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
