The Pittsburgh Pirates nipped the Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings 5 to 4 at Citizen's Bank Park in a hard fought contest.

The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Pittsburgh ended up winning it in the 10th inning. Paul Waner tripled. Honus Wagner next to the plate and he worked the squeeze play to perfection. Overall Pittsburgh out-hit Philadelphia 12 to 9.

Dutch Dietz(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Dietz got help
from Roy Face who earned his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Mitch
Williams(0-1) in relief.

"Unbelieveable-five games into the season and already we're five games out" said Phils manager Charlie Manuel afterwards. "We've got to get better, otherwise we'll be eating the Mets' dust all year".
