First baseman John Mayberry smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Oakland Co
Stadium where the Kansas City Royals beat the Oakland Athletics 9 to
7.

Mayberry enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He singled in the 2nd inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 6th inning. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.

Steve Farr(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Dan Quisenberry earned the save, his 2nd. Diego Segui(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. Oakland had a 7-4 lead after six innings but the bullpen got belted for the second straight time as the Royals scored 5 runs in the last 3 innings.
