Rolando Arrojo allowed only 2 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the
scoreboard for Kansas City as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Kansas City
Royals by the score of 8 to 0 at Tropicana Field.

Fred McGriff enjoyed a big day at the plate. He lined a base-hit bringing in
two baserunners in the 1st inning (giving Arrojo all the run support he would need), lined a single in the 5th inning and bombed a two-run dinger to round out the Rays scoring in the 7th inning. Tampa Bay banged out 10 hits on the afternoon.

Arrojo(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. Mark Gubicza(0-1) was charged
with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7 runs in 6
innings.

'We didn't have a whole lot of chances today,' Dick Howser said. 'Arrojo just
was too much for our guys-but we also gave them plenty of chances with the three errors (which led to four unearned runs).'
